St Andrews Northampton is currently recruiting for a Senior Occupational Therapist who have an in-depth understanding and knowledge of working with individuals who present with a variety of mental health conditions.

The role

As a registered senior clinician, you would be joining a highly motivated, knowledgeable, and innovative OT team. As an employee of St Andrews, you will adopt an inclusive and can do attitude in approaching your work.

You will demonstrate a good understanding of OT within secure services, including an application of risk assessment skills. In sharing your experience of applying the OT process, you should also emphasise how you promote our specialism as a profession.

Leadership and highly tuned clinical reasoning are required to lead the therapy provided on the ward together with the experience of being a senior member of the ward team. The job will require you to supervise junior staff, develop others, and take responsibility for projects as required for service development. You will be expected to both lead and attend activities to enhance your continuing professional development.

Continued professional development is supported, with access to a range of in-house CPD events, as well as an expectation to be involved in the development and training of OT students. Further opportunities include networking opportunities with colleagues of the same and different grades within the service and The Charity.

You should have:

  • Experience working within a secure setting.
  • Demonstrate post registration clinical expertise with minimum of 3 years
  • Post-registration expertise in an adult mental health setting and working with women will be an added advantage
  • Evidence of specialist training in the area of practice and ongoing CPD
  • Ability to apply and promote OT skills, including carrying out specialised occupational assessments, setting clear occupational goals and facilitating a wide variety of therapeutic interventions
  • Ability to manage highly complex and sensitive information using well-developed motivational and negotiating skills, representing the OT service in a variety of different situations
  • Analytical skills involving skilled interpretation, comparison and reasoned judgement in complex situations
  • Flexible planning and organisational skills required for the formulation and adjustment of a broad range of therapeutic activities and programmes within an occupational therapy and multi-disciplinary team
  • Knowledge and experience of clinical supervision
  • The ability to manage own and others workload flexibly
  • Knowledge of research techniques and experience of clinical audit
  • Experience of day-to-day supervision of junior staff and students
  • Interest in theoretical models of practice including the Model of Human Occupation and experience using vdt Model of Creative Ability will be an added advantage
