The Role:
We are looking for a dedicated Cover Supervisor to provide high-quality classroom supervision and support to students, particularly those with SEN. This role requires an adaptable and compassionate individual who can manage a classroom effectively while supporting students with diverse needs. This role could be made permanent for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and support students in the absence of the class teacher, ensuring a positive and structured learning environment.

  • Adapt teaching materials and approaches to meet the needs of students with SEN.

  • Work closely with SENCOs, teaching assistants, and other staff to provide targeted support.

  • Implement effective behaviour management strategies to promote engagement and learning.

  • Foster an inclusive and supportive classroom atmosphere where all students feel valued.

  • Assist with the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and other learning strategies.

  • Uphold safeguarding and welfare responsibilities in line with school policies and procedures.

Minimum Requirements:
To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Experience: At least 1-2 years of experience working within a secondary school, PRU, or SEN setting. Previous experience as a Cover Supervisor, Teaching Assistant, or Behaviour Mentor is highly desirable.

  • Knowledge: Understanding of different SEN needs, including Autism, ADHD, SEMH, and Speech and Language difficulties.

  • Skills: Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to adapt teaching strategies to support diverse learning needs.

  • Training: Familiarity with safeguarding policies, de-escalation techniques, and differentiated instruction.

  • Qualifications: A degree in education or a related field is desirable, but not essential. Candidates with relevant experience and a passion for SEN are encouraged to apply.

To be considered for the higher end of the salary bracket, candidates should demonstrate:

  • Advanced Experience: Extensive experience supporting students with SEN in a classroom setting.

  • Leadership or Coordinator Roles: Experience as a lead Cover Supervisor, SEN support coordinator, or involvement in pastoral support.

  • Professional Development: Continued professional development (CPD) in SEN education, including advanced training in behaviour management, Autism awareness, or therapeutic interventions.

Location:
This role is based in Northampton, within a well-established secondary school. The school is easily accessible by public transport and offers a supportive working environment.
