Job Description: We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant to join our mainstream primary school located in Northampton, Northamptonshire (NN7). The role involves working closely with a pupil in reception who has very high and complex needs. This position is full-time and offers a rewarding opportunity to make a significant impact on the educational journey of a child with special needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one support to a pupil in reception with very high and complex needs.
  • Assist the pupil in accessing the curriculum and engaging in learning activities.
  • Implement individualized learning plans tailored to the specific needs of the pupil.
  • Support the pupil in developing social and emotional skills within the school environment.
  • Collaborate effectively with the class teacher, SENCO, and other staff members to ensure consistency and coherence in support strategies.
  • Monitor and record the pupil's progress, providing feedback to the relevant stakeholders.
  • Maintain a safe and supportive learning environment for the pupil at all times.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant in a mainstream or special educational setting.
  • Experience working with children with special educational needs, particularly those with very high and complex needs.
  • Strong understanding of behaviour management techniques and strategies.
  • Ability to adapt teaching methods and resources to meet the individual needs of the pupil.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with children, parents, and colleagues.
  • Relevant qualifications or training in special educational needs (e.g., CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools - SEN Pathway).
  • A compassionate and patient approach to supporting children with diverse learning needs.
