Opus People Solutions on behalf of West Northamptonshire Council are looking for a Senior Lawyer within Adult Social Care for an initial 3-month contract.

The successful candidate will undertake the following main responsibilities:

  • Undertake a caseload of Adult Social Care matters.
  • Provide detailed and accurate advice on the Council's responsibilities under the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005, Health and Social Care Act 2008 and Mental Health Act 1983
  • Provide legal advice and support across a broad range of areas including Ordinary Residence, safeguarding, provider failure S117 aftercare
  • Submit applications to the Court of Protection and high Court e.g. COP applications for Deputyship, welfare and best interests, DOL, S21a challenges, JR and inherent jurisdiction
  • Attend court, negotiate and conduct your own advocacy.

Key skills

  • Solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales or Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives or a demonstrable level of relevant equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of the legislation governing Local Government
  • Knowledge of the legislation governing the service specific areas of the designated legal team.
