Location: NorthamptonSalary: Up to £45,000 - Hybrid workingWe are currently seeking an IT Systems Engineer for a forward-thinking technology company specialising in robust IT solutions that empower businesses to operate efficiently and securely.Role Overview:As an IT Systems Engineer, you will manage and support the infrastructure, from installing and upgrading critical system components to maintaining security protocols. This role requires a highly analytical, self-sufficient IT professional with deep expertise in systems administration, network security and troubleshooting. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to design and implement efficient solutions, provide technical support and continuously improve our IT environment.Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, upgrade and manage essential infrastructure, including networks, servers, operating systems and storage systems.
  • Administer data and network security, including managing system firewalls (excluding core network), antivirus, group policy and email security.
  • Support staff and end-users by resolving technical issues, ensuring effective communication and handling escalated support tickets.
  • Guide project design and execution with teams, ensuring alignment with architecture specifications and standards.
  • Conduct regular system upgrades, patching and maintenance to keep infrastructure aligned with industry standards.
  • Implement and uphold IT security standards and policies to protect the organisation’s data.
  • Develop functional specifications, provide technical training and support onboarding for new employees.
  • Maintain comprehensive IT service documentation and oversee system upgrades.
  • Stay informed of emerging technology trends and continuously suggest improvements to enhance efficiency and security.

Essential skills

  • 5+ years of IT experience, with a strong background in infrastructure management.
  • Proficiency with Azure, Microsoft 365, InTune and related services.
  • Advanced knowledge of Windows (2016 onwards) and Linux servers (RHEL, Ubuntu, CentOS).
  • Expertise in Hyper-V and clustered environments.
  • Solid understanding of system security, data protection and troubleshooting protocols.
  • Experience managing monthly patching in a Windows or Linux environment using Azure ARC.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities, with a proactive approach to IT challenges.

Desirable Skills

  • Familiarity with ITIL standards and experience working within SLA agreements.
  • Knowledge of wireless networks, Apple Business Manager, Datto products, and devices from Juniper, Cisco and Draytek.
  • Experience with Zabbix monitoring and 3CX VoIP systems.
