HGV Workshop Manager needed

Northampton

Our client, a privately owned garage specialising in the servicing and repair of Commercial Vehicles, is seeking for a HGV Workshop Manager to join their team.

The ideal candidates requires a blend of technical knowledge, strong leadership skills, and the ability to manage operations efficiently.Workshop Controllers and Fleet Engineers from dealers and fleets who would like to step up are welcome to apply.

Role: HGV Workshop Manager

Salary: £45 000 - £50 000 per annum

Hours: Mon to Fri 8:30 am to 5pm (30 mins lunch)

Location: Northampton

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage a team of mechanics, technicians, and other staff members in the workshop.
  • Provide guidance, training, and support to ensure that all staff are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge.
  • Manage shift schedules and workloads to ensure proper coverage and efficiency.
  • Ensure that all repairs and maintenance work meets industry standards and customer requirements.
  • Carry out regular quality checks on vehicles after work is completed to ensure all issues are resolved.

Requirements:

  • Ability to lead, motivate, and manage a team of mechanics, technicians, and other workshop staff.
  • Proven experience as an HGV Technician or similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of heavy goods vehicles and commercial vehicle systems.
  • A relevant qualification in HGV maintenance (e.g., City & Guilds or NVQ).
  • A diagnostic mindset with the ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  • Full UK driving license (Class 1 or 2 preferred).
  • A team player with excellent communication skills.
  • Ideally, previous experience working in a similar, independent garage setting.
