We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer (Gas) who has broad experience working within the gas or utilities industry, extensive relevant experience as a Mechanical Design Engineer as well as have a HNC or degree in relevant discipline.

The successful candidate will help to deliver gas engineering projects and support the development of our engineering/mechanical frameworks, you will be working on projects UK and Ireland wide with a base in our Northwich office.

RESPONSIBILITIES FOR A MECHANICAL DESIGN ENGINEER:

  • Undertake feasibility and conceptual studies of gas engineering projects.
  • Undertake mechanical design of gas pipelines, mains and associated AGI's and governors.
  • From a clients scope complete project documentation, preparation and interpretation of drawings, materials, and equipment data sheets.
  • Prepare technical specifications, reports, and associated documentation in line with UK and international gas industry design codes e.g., IGEM, TD1, TD3, TD4, TD13 etc.
  • Understand the baseline requirements of TD2, TD/12 and SR23.
  • Undertake hazardous area calculations to IGEM/SR/25 and manage updated hazardous area drawings.
  • Liaise with CAD team to produce drawings as per specifications.
  • Liaise with Clients in respect of the work being completed and any appropriate third parties.
  • Consult with sub-contractors.
  • Engineer projects during the engineering, procurement, and construction phases.
  • Provide technical input into main works invitations to tender, orders, projects, and tasks in the most timely and efficient manner.
  • Manage a team of engineers and support the growth of the mechanical design sector within the business.
  • Enhance and build and frameworks with new and existing clients.
  • Provide technical advice to Long O'Donnell Associates and / or other members of the project services team where appropriate.
  • Audit work carried out by others including outsourced contractors.
  • Develop and ensure the application of project quality management systems.
  • Provide resource planning of project programmes.
  • Provide input for the allocated discipline to the wider business e.g., providing support to bids and quotation process.

REQUIREMENTS FOR A MECHANICAL DESIGN ENGINEER:

  • Previous engineering experience and competence in ideally gas transmission and gas distribution engineering activities.
  • Previous experience working at an engineer/senior mechanical engineer capacity, within the gas, oil, energy, sectors is essential
  • Be aware of current and emerging industry developments, technical and legislative requirements and applicable guidance documents would be beneficial.
  • Full conversant knowledge and use of the Microsoft office suite of software applications
  • An HNC or degree (or equivalent) in an appropriate engineering discipline.
  • Membership of an appropriate professional body and evidence of continual professional development is highly beneficial.
  • Previous experience of being part of a team of an integrated multi-disciplined team is highly beneficial.
