They support the people they work with to overcome the experiences they have had, empowering them to build up the skills and resources they need to take control of their own lives, access a tenancy of their own and maintain a quality of life in the long term.
We are currently recruiting a Domestic Abuse Support Worker, on a permanent basis, working 30 hours per week in Cheshire West and Chester.
The role
As a Domestic Abuse Support Worker, you will be accountable and responsible for the effective trauma informed, person centred support and empowerment of clients within accommodation services.
Key responsibilities will include.
- To triage, accept and action new referrals and complete move in procedures for new clients on all services for accommodation, resettlement and dispersed.
- Monitor and allocate clients in conjunction with the Service Manager and allocation guidelines.
- To assess needs of all clients using the appropriate paperwork, in conjunction with them, devise a SMART plan to address identified need.
- To ensure housing benefit is claimed efficiently and rent payments (including service charge) are received from clients.
- To assess the risks of all clients and complete risk management plans to address any risks identified, reviewing risk on a regular basis.
- To make referrals and work in a cooperative manner with all relevant agencies in the best interests of the client and their children.
- Record and manage any anti-social behaviour or neighbour nuisance and respond according to procedure. Issue warnings and notice where appropriate.
- To be responsible and accountable for the efficient recording, storing and maintaining of client records including contact notes, correspondence, SMART plans, risk management plans and outcomes achieved.
- To actively engage clients and promote service user involvement including weekly resident meetings, devising and delivering recognised training courses to clients.
- To have a thorough knowledge and understanding and keep up to date with legislation, injunction procedures and child protection procedures regarding Domestic Abuse.
- To deliver group work and programs in the community.
- Where necessary, ending a license agreement with a client in conjunction with the Service Manager.
The candidate
- Relevant qualification around Domestic Abuse, IDVA, ISVA or equivalent to Diploma, Degree or NVQ 3 or equivalent work level experience and the willingness to achieve a level 3 relevant qualification.
- An extensive understanding of individuals and families who have or are experiencing domestic abuse and the options available to them.
- Knowledge of working as part of a team, working on own initiative and managing time effectively.
- Knowledge in devising needs assessment support plans and providing support in relation to these.
- Knowledge of assessing and implementing risk assessments including DASH Ric.
- Experience of trauma informed working, recognising support required around mental health, substance misuse issues, and exploitation.
- Knowledge of welfare benefits and relevant legislation.
