Design Engineer / Norwich / Full-Time Permanent / Competitive Salary
Position 1 Recruitment is hiring a Design Engineer with expertise in mechanical and structural engineering to drive innovative solutions for our client in Norwich.
Design Engineer will lead design activities, develop technical documentation, and ensure industry compliance. Working closely with the Engineering Director and project teams, youll refine conceptual designs, perform mechanical and structural calculations, and conduct finite element analysis (FEA).
Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out design activities following the Design Engineering Procedure.
- Work closely with the Engineering Director, Project Engineer/Manager, and Design Engineering Manager to prepare URS documents, ensuring accuracy and timely completion.
- Create and develop conceptual designs, present them to the project team (including suppliers where needed), and gather feedback.
- Transform agreed concepts into detailed engineering solutions, as assigned by the Engineering Director/Design Engineering Manager.
- Perform mechanical and structural calculations and finite element analysis (FEA), ensuring compliance with company standards and industry codes.
- Produce mechanical and structural drafting, adhering to company standards and protocols.
- Prepare project documentation, including drawings, inspection forms, test procedures, and EMI reports, following industry standards.
- Review and check colleagues' calculations, FEA, drawings, and documents to maintain quality and accuracy.
- Lead and present design reviews, using available IT tools to communicate final designs effectively.
- Support sales teams by developing and reviewing design solutions, resource plans, and delivery strategies for proposals.
- Actively participate in team meetings, seminars, and project planning sessions.
- Help train and mentor graduate and developing engineers.
A design engineer should have experience in offshore mechanical and structural design, including topside structures, subsea equipment, and drilling activities. A HND or degree in mechanical, civil, or structural engineering is required.
Experience in preparing design packs for third-party reviews and using finite element analysis (FEA) software is essential. Knowledge of pressure vessel design, lifting equipment, welding processes, fabrication, and corrosion protection is a plus.
Candidates must be skilled in 2D and 3D CAD and familiar with SolidWorks, AutoCAD, MathCad, Ansys, and SACS. Strong IT skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook are needed.
The role requires problem-solving, decision-making, and clear communication skills. A good commercial mindset and the ability to identify ways to improve project profitability will make a candidate stand out.
This is a full-time, permanent position, Monday to Thursday - 08.30 to 17.30hrs. Friday 08.30 to 15.00hrs.
This role is primarily office-based, with some travel required depending on the project.
