CNC Operator and Programmer
Our client, a successful manufacturing business close to Norwich, are currently seeking a CNC Operator and Programmer to join their team
This is a full time, permanent position, based in Norwich
HOURS: Basic hours 8:30am — 5:00pm Mon — Fri lunch 1:00-1:30pm
Normal working hours are 7:00am — 5:00pm
Due to seasonal variations within the business these hours may be increased in the
Winter, or reduced in the Summer.
KEY SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
- Must have a flexible approach to working hours and be able to work extended hours on occasions
- Good understanding of the principles of CNC machining, design and engineering
- Has a reasonable knowledge of CAD/CAM capabilities
- The ideal candidate will have a good engineering aptitude, will be from a CNC router (or similar) programming background.
- Prior programming experience or ability to learn proprietary programming software
- Ability to read and understand CAD/CAM drawings
- Ability to transfer practical CNC knowledge in to program variables.
- Basic understanding of PC file structures and MS Office programs
- Ability to understand basic engineering calculations
- Fundamental appreciation of business concepts
- Able to demonstrate success and experience in a machining background.
- Have CNC machine minding experience within wood or metal work.
JOB PURPOSE:
- To operate and program all CNC machines.
- Specific responsibility for the XYZ Milling and CNC extrusion machining centre for production of aluminium extrusions.
- Machining methods and quality to be in accordance with agreed machining principles and procedures.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTIBILITIES:
- Operate and program the CNC extrusion machining centre, utilising the propriety software (Shapes),
- Ensuring the optimum process to achieve minimal material wastage and optimum machine utilisation.
- Reporting any problems or potential problems to your immediate supervisor.
- Train to be able to carry out the maximum range of tasks within the machining / finishing department, including operating and programming all CAD/CAM based CNC machines.
- Liaise with the design engineer to remove any ambiguity or resolve any product queries.
- Liaise with the Machine Shop Department Leader to organise and implement work schedules.
- Reporting any shortage of material stock, tooling or consumables.
- Assist with the operation of a full maintenance programme in accordance with the Machine manufacturers and guidelines .
- Ensure that the machines, tools and working areas are kept clean and tidy ready to carry out the next task
- Comply with all aspects of the Health and Safety procedures at all times.
- Liaise closely with other production functions to resolve machining queries.
- To adhere to, and assist in the continuous improvement of, Quality procedures and policies outlined in ISO9001 Quality Manual and Certification criteria.
- To undertake any other reasonable duty as requested.
HOLIDAYS: 32 days per annum, including 8 days for public holidays, 3 or 4 days to be taken over Christmas shut-down
