EPC Project Manager - Norwich Substation. Due 20/11/24

  • 12-month contract
  • Hybrid - Home working 2 days a week and Norwich Substation 3 days a week
  • Start date - Early January

We are looking for a Project Manager or small PM team to act as client-side PM on behalf of National Grid in the delivery of the Norwich Substation extension package of projects for a 12-month period (extendable on mutual agreement).

The work at Norwich consists of two projects. A Grid Park connecting 3 new customers via a 33kV / 400kV transformer. Construction is underway and energisation date expected in Q3 2025. The second project involves extending the 400kV substation both East and West to accommodate an additional 8 bays. Construction is also underway, with several conditions required to be discharged as part of the TCPA prior to energisation in Q3 2026.

Job Purpose:

To project manage the Norwich Substation extension to time, cost and specification in accordance with the NG Network Development Process and the in-flight NEC4 works contract.

Role requirements:

  • Act as the nominated NEC Project Manager for the Main Works Contract.
  • Lead the NG internal governance and project development processes. Prior experience within the NG system would be a distinct advantage here.
  • Ensure internal and contractor compliance with Health & Safety, CDM & Environmental legislation as well as adherence National Grid SHES standards, supported by the National Grid Project Supervisors.
  • Enact/Support the role of Client's Delegated Representative and where appropriate, Principle Designer or arrange for the provision of Principle Designer for each project as required under CDM Regulations
  • Support in the engagement of OFGEM to seek appropriate level of funding. Providing information and composing briefing and regulatory documents to support MSIP and securities processes.
  • Provide regular project status reports giving accurate financial forecasting, SHESQ performance, milestone progress & risk management data. Incorporating the contractors monthly reporting.
  • Drive customer satisfaction through positive engagement working pro-actively to avoid issues, significant commercial awareness and proactivity is required in this role. Supported by a matrix organisation manage third party issues, land, consents, and local community stakeholder relationships to preserve National Grid's reputation.
  • Assess the need and where required scope and manage Front End Engineering Design (FEED) support for emerging scope. Monitor and control their activities to provide an optimal compliant solution in a timely manner.
