A dynamic and fast growing small construction consultancy based in Norwich is seeking an experienced Principal Designer to join their team. This consultancy prides itself on delivering high-quality services across a range of sectors, providing clients with expert guidance on health and safety regulations throughout the design and construction phases.

The Principal Designer Role

The successful Principal Designer will play a key role in advising clients on their duties under the CDM 2015 regulations, working closely with designers to ensure safety and compliance from project inception to completion. The Principal Designer will work across diverse projects, including commercial, residential, and mixed-use developments, adding value by identifying and mitigating risks early in the design process.

Key Responsibilities of the Principal Designer

Acting as Principal Designer and CDM Advisor, providing guidance on health and safety matters.

Conducting design reviews and advising project teams on compliance with CDM 2015.

Preparing and reviewing pre-construction information and managing risk assessments.

Engaging with clients and design teams to promote best practices and effective risk management.

Supporting the preparation of Construction Phase Plans (CPP) and ensuring all Health and Safety documentation is in place.

The Principal Designer

  • Minimum 3 years' experience in a Principal Designer role within a consultancy environment.
  • Strong understanding of CDM 2015 regulations and Health and Safety standards.
  • NEBOSH Construction Certificate or equivalent Health and Safety qualification.
  • Membership with a relevant professional body such as APS, IOSH, or RICS is desirable.
  • Background in architecture, engineering, or construction management.
