Our Life Sciences client is seeking to hire an experienced Chief Finance Officer (CFO) to join the existing Senior Leadership Team (SLT) to support and lead the journey and invest in go to market capability. The new member of their SLT will oversee all financial activities, drive the financial strategy, ensure the financial health of the business, and will lead a post-merger integration as part of our commercial scale up.  The CFO will provide crucial business insights and support to define strategic direction, prioritize investments, support commercial scale up of the business, and enhance operational efficiency.Looking forward, the CFO will be critical in leading any potential IPO or M&A activity.  The ideal candidate will have both the strategic experience and capability but will need to be comfortable in adopting a relatively hands-on approach and will thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.The CFO will have responsibility for leading the Operations and Facilities function, currently a UK based entity with a satellite overseas, but expanding through commercialisation to encompass several entities worldwide.  Key Responsibilities will include:    Financial Strategy and Planning: 
  • Develop and execute the financial strategy in alignment with business objectives. 
  • Lead financial planning and analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting processes. 
  • Provide strategic financial insights to the CEO, broader SLT, and Board.
  • Support M&A due diligence as well as associated integration activities.
  • Lead PMI activity following a planned key acquisition in 2025.
  • Take a leading role in business fundraising and funding strategy needs.
  • Lead potential IPO or M&A activity
 Financial Management: 
  • Oversee all aspects of financial management, including accounting, tax, cashflow management, treasury, and risk management.
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations and standards. 
  • Provision and development of appropriate financial and commercial reporting to business heads and the Board, covering KPIs and performance as well as pure financial reporting. 
Site Operations: 
  • Oversee Director of Site Operations responsible for Facilities & Labs Management, IT, and Procurement.
  • Develop and execute the site operations strategy in alignment with overall business objectives. 
 Operational performance: 
  • Manage robust financial systems, processes, and controls associated with business expenditure.
  • Drive cost management and operational efficiency initiatives across the group. 
  • Monitor and analyse financial performance, identifying areas for improvement. 
 Leadership and Team Development:
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the team to ensure high performance and continuous improvement. 
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and innovation.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across the business to drive the overall success of the business.
  • Relevant accounting qualifications (e.g. ACA/ACCA/CIMA), with robust technical knowledge and experience in global/international businesses.
  • Previous leadership experience in finance-oriented roles (e.g. VP Finance, Group Financial Director, CFO) in growing midsized companies, ideally within the BioTech or Lifesciences.
  • Demonstrable accomplishment in leading/supporting growth companies through major events, including significant fundraising campaigns, IPOs and M&A activity.
  • Demonstrated commercial exposure including bringing new products to market and negotiating commercial terms. 
  • High ethical standards, strong fit with the team’s values and culture, genuine interest in science, and an ability to excel within a fast-pace and dynamic environment.
  • A team player, and enterprise leader, bringing a wealth of experience outside of just financial expertise to drive the company forward.
