Operations Team Leader

Our client is a leading developer of underwater products used for surveys, imaging, navigation and monitoring. They are looking to hire an Operations Manager to lead ther Hire Rentals business based in Aberdeen. In this role, you will oversee the full spectrum of rental operations, from equipment dispatch to final invoicing, ensuring a seamless, high-quality experience for our global customers.

You will be responsible for managing the Hire Admin team and the Workshop Supervisor, ensuring the effective and efficient operation of our rental services. This role requires a proactive, results-driven leader with strong people management skills and the ability to adapt in a dynamic environment.


Your responsibilities:

Business Operations

  • Operate the Hire Rentals business, serving our global customers.
  • Collaborate with the regional Heads of Sales to ensure that the hire system efficiency is maximised in terms of asset utilisation.
  • Maximise the utilisation of existing assets to minimise the capitalisation of new assets into the Rental Pool.
  • Work with Engineering and Business Development teams to ensure hire asset availability for all new product releases.
  • Work with Sales and Business Development teams to ensure availability for non-revenue generating assets for key opportunities / customers considering new product releases, new customers, expansions into new markets, long lead-time mitigation, strategic customer trials, etc.
  • Review and improve commercial terms and conditions for the hire business with the contracts team.


Operational Management

  • Oversee the Workshop Supervisor and agree on the workload to enable seamless operations between hire and repair.
  • Work with the repairs and administration team to streamline the global processes involved around testing and booking in/out to make an asset available for rental in the shortest time.
  • Accountable for Rental Order to Delivery process and timely recovery of those assets.
  • Ensure Export Compliance by completing all internal vetting processes and highlighting any export control requirements prior to confirming acceptance of the rental order.
  • Satisfy the business stock management requirements (e.g., annual stock-check; cycle counting).
  • Maintain office QHSE requirements and ensure compliance with ISO standards.


Customer and Sales Support

  • Use CRM to generate quotes for customers directly or for the sales team. Maintain and monitor the progress of orders.
  • Work with Rental Admin to track equipment rental through to the final invoice.
  • Provide usage reports to the Senior Management Team and make recommendations for asset adjustment.
  • Provide metrics on usage, enable live reporting of availability of product, and provide reminders of returning goods.


People Management

  • Conduct regular staff performance reviews, including facilitation of professional development and succession planning within the team.
  • Provide regular ongoing training and guidance to team members.


The ideal candidate will have the following skills, knowledge & experience:

Essential

  • Proficient in independently configuring and operating various Sonardyne equipment, with the expertise to support customers and instill confidence in their selection and setup of appropriate equipment to meet their needs.
  • Familiarity with ERP and CRM systems.
  • Preparing reports on team activities and asset usage, providing actionable recommendations for improvement.
  • Experience working in a continuous improvement environment, with familiarity in implementing change.
  • Extensive experience of working offshore.
  • Demonstrable experience in communicating technical concepts to customers.
  • HND in Engineering or Science subject


Desirable

  • Supervision and day to day management of the activities of a small team.
  • Export Compliance knowledge.
  • Experience in managing office/workshop QHSE.
  • Previous experience in mentoring or training team members.
  • Knowledge of Rental Business operations.
  • Sales experience.
  • Project management skills.
  • Knowledge of commercial contracts/terms and conditions.
  • Degree in Engineering or Science subject.
  • Supervisory or management qualification.
