Mechanical Engineer (Fuel Distribution) - Do you have experience of liquid fuel storage and distribution systems and their electrical components? If so we are looking for several highly skilled Mechanical Engineers to join our team at the United States Air Force, 48th Civil Engineer Squadron RAF Lakenheath.

About the role:

As a Mechanical Engineer, you will play a crucial role in maintaining and troubleshooting our fuel distribution and storage systems, ensuring our operations run smoothly and safely. You'll work closely with a team of skilled professionals dedicated to excellence and mission success. Your responsibilities will include performing preventive maintenance and inspections on fuel systems. You will work 39 hours per week, working hours will be Monday - Friday 7:30am - 4:00pm, although may be required to do shift work to over evenings/ weekends or emergency overtime due to work requirements.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Perform preventive maintenance and inspections on fuel systems.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical components, including motors, switches, and control valves.
  • Adhere to stringent safety regulations and procedures.
  • Calibrate fuel dispensing systems, tank, and pressure gauges.
  • Measure, cut, thread, join, and fit piping and tubing.

About you:

The ideal Mechanical Engineer will have extensive knowledge in fuel systems, electrical components, and safety regulations, alongside technical skills in calibration and pipework techniques. Qualifications such as NVQ/City and Guilds Level 2 in Welding and Mechanical Engineering, or HND/HNC/BTEC are desirable.

You may be required to be certified in the use of a respirator, as well as qualified for entry into hazardous liquid fuel tanks for inspection, cleaning, and repair. You will need to hold a valid UKdriver's Category B driving licence, as the work may require the employee to drive a motor vehicle to and from work sites.

You should possess strong analytical abilities to diagnose system deficiencies and malfunctions and be physically fit to perform demanding tasks. You will be confident of working in awkward, tiring, or uncomfortable positions, or cramped areas. Role requires you to frequently lift, carry, and set up parts and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift items weighing over 50 pounds using jacks, hoists, or helpers. Role may require you to make repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms and to enter bulk storage tanks through tank manholes 24 inches in diameter.
