Empowering learning is recruiting for a community maintained special school for students with complex learning needs, including autism and challenging behaviour.

The school has an in-house therapy team consisting of SaLT, OT, Behaviour Support, Complementary Therapy and Art Therapy. The school has different pathways, which cater for the different and individual learning needs of the students. You will be working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will provide specialist occupational therapy to the children and young people aged 11 to 19, working collaboratively with the school's staff to promote our core values of ambition, respect, courage, happiness, and brilliant lives. You will be involved in the development of diverse, effective and innovative approaches to supporting and developing the sensory need, independence and regulation skills of those with complex needs.

  • Recognised OT degree/qualification
  • HCPC registration
  • RCOT membership
  • Evidence of CPD
  • 2-3 years' experience of working with children with complex needs and behaviour
  • Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team
  • Knowledge of a range of approaches to assessment, intervention, and outcomes Salary: Starting salary equivalent to NHS Band 6 or higher depending on experience and by negotiation. Band 5 applicants will also be considered if they have relevant experience and skills. Reporting to: Deputy Headteacher Hours: Term Time Only plus Inset, 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday Purpose of the Role:
  • To be responsible for overseeing a caseload of students with complex needs.
  • To provide evidence based occupational therapy assessment and intervention to complex students with moderate to severe learning disabilities and neurodiversity. All students at this school have an EHCP, so experience of working with children with SEND is highly desirable.

Purpose Of The Job to provide evidence based occupational therapy assessment and intervention to complex students with moderate to severe learning disabilities and/or autism To develop a whole school approach to understanding sensory processing differences and its impact on learning To meet the individual student's needs as stated on their EHCP To work closely with speech and language therapists and other professionals on a consistent approach across the school.

Occupational Therapist Job Description

To provide training for staff, parents and carers in a variety of areas of OT input ( Universal offer)

To develop and deliver student specific OT training relating to OT programmes. (Targeted and Specialist offer)

  1. To attend and contribute to multi- disciplinary meetings, class meetings, annual reviews and progress meetings
  2. To be actively involved in students transition to and from School, write transition reports and communicate effectively with other professionals when required during transition
  3. To develop outcome measures in relation to the occupational therapy input provided.
  4. To use clinical supervision to reflect and improve clinical practise
  5. To be accountable for own professional actions and working within the Professional Codes of Conduct and professional guidelines as set out by the RCOT at all times
  6. To be responsible for and able to evidence own Continuous Professional Development.
  7. To take an active role in planning and delivering the CPD programme across the therapy department
  8. To carry out additional duties and tasks that may be required within the range of the responsibilities of the post which may include a change in workplace
