We are recruiting on behalf of a rapidly growing company within the utilities sector, seeking a dedicated and experienced Head of Billing to lead their billing operations. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team in a fast-paced environment and play a key role in driving operational excellence. Role Overview:
As the Head of Billing, you will take full ownership of the retail business billing operations, leading and managing the team responsible for delivering day-to-day billing activities. The role is focused on maximising efficiency, ensuring accurate billing, and supporting debt prevention. You will collaborate closely with senior leadership and various departments to deliver first-time right outcomes and drive improvements across the billing cycle.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop the Billing team, responsible for SME, I&C, and bespoke billing, while partnering with key stakeholders.
  • Improve first-time right billing performance by refining and efficiently supporting the meters-to-cash cycle and debt prevention.
  • Ensure all billing processes comply with industry regulations and standards.
  • Provide accurate metering and billing information to support debt teams in legal disputes and debt prevention initiatives.
  • Oversee and assess the billing infrastructure, identifying areas for improvement and ensuring performance standards are met.
  • Design and implement the end-to-end billing experience, including supporting various pricing models, billing types, receivables management, and reporting.
  • Lead the billing and coding teams, ensuring adherence to industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance billing operational efficiencies and improve reporting, analytics, and KPIs.
  • Ensure all risks and controls related to billing are logged and processes are adhered to, reporting any material breaches as required.
  • Maintain high service levels and ensure compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Anticipate and address business risk factors, adapting operations to the evolving energy industry.
  • Support field teams in metering and debt-related queries, including managing relationships with DNO, MEM, and third-party providers.

What We're Looking For:

  • Proven experience in leading and managing billing operations within the utilities sector.
  • Strong understanding of billing processes, regulatory compliance, and debt prevention strategies.
  • Experience in improving billing accuracy and operational efficiencies, with a focus on first-time right outcomes.
  • Ability to lead teams across various billing activities, supporting both SME and I&C customers.
  • Commercially minded with a hands-on approach, capable of identifying and implementing process improvements.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Analytical mindset, able to develop and report against KPIs and billing-related analytics.
  • Ability to manage risks and ensure operational controls are in place and adhered to.
