Are you an experienced professional with a strong background in Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)? Nottinghamshire Council is seeking a Senior Appeals Officer to take the lead on SENDIST tribunals and support the local authority’s appeals process.

Duties:

  • Take the lead in preparing the Local Authority’s (LA) response to SENDIST appeals, ensuring robust legal and evidence-based cases.
  • Prepare the LA’s case by identifying legal points, gathering evidence, and supporting witnesses effectively.
  • Adopt a positive, strength-based approach to resolving issues during appeals while maintaining a focus on achieving the best outcomes for children and young people.
  • Present the LA’s case at tribunal hearings, meeting all deadlines and demonstrating a thorough understanding of case-specific issues.

Key Requirements:

  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience in SEND-related services, including significant work with children, young people, and families presenting with complex SEN and disabilities.
  • Proven ability to guide EHC coordinators and senior practitioners in complex cases, offering managerial guidance and pragmatic solutions.
  • Extensive knowledge of SEND legislation, tribunal processes, and strength-based practices for problem-solving.
