Job Spec: Controls Engineer PLC

Role Purpose

The Controls Engineer will be responsible for the design, development, and implementation of complete control systems for automation systems sold and delivered. This encompasses electrical design, PLC and HMI software development, commissioning, and fault-finding. Additionally, the role involves providing 24/7 support to our installed client base.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop PLC-based control systems, including PLC code and HMI systems (e.g., Siemens, Rockwell).
  • Test, commission, and troubleshoot electrical and control systems on customer sites.
  • Supervise on-site installation of automation systems.
  • Prepare internal and external documentation, such as URS, FDS, HMI/SCADA specifications, and electrical specifications.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of control system standards.
  • Provide customer training and handover of installed systems.
  • Liaise with external partners for electrical solutions.
  • Support the sales function in preparing controls elements of sales offers.
  • Provide 24/7 customer support, including remote and on-site troubleshooting.
  • Ensure smooth handover to the Customer Support team.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Assist with on-site installation, maintenance, and repair.
  • Work with the project team to ensure solutions meet customer requirements and maintain project margins.
  • Support customers during the early life phase of project go-live.
  • Develop effective working relationships with team members.
  • Maintain high standards of behaviour and adherence to company policies.
  • Actively manage risks and opportunities.
  • Promote continuous improvement and a safe working environment.
  • Be familiar with company IT/ERP and CRM systems.
  • Report and address safety issues promptly.
  • Assist with the development of new company procedures.
  • Undertake other assigned tasks as needed.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • Proven experience in designing and implementing control systems
  • Strong knowledge of PLC programming (e.g., Siemens, Rockwell) and HMI software
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
