Job Role: Health and Safety Advisor

Location: Derby

Salary: £40,000-£50,000 + Benefits package

About the role:

Our client is looking to strengthen their SHEQ team with a Regional Health & Safety Advisor for their Severn Trent framework. Based in the Severn Trent region on various projects, you will be responsible for the day-to-day health and safety duties and contribute to the management and development of the regional safety strategy.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Provide support to the project team to enable compliance with health and safety legislation and the implementation of HSE guidance and best practices.
  • Carry out systematic audits and inspections of construction sites to verify compliance with legislative requirements and health and safety management systems.
  • Monitor the satisfactory resolution of health and safety issues.
  • Investigate accidents and incidents to identify the root cause and learning points.
  • Assist the project team with the preparation of risk assessments and identification of suitable control measures as and when required.
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of safety-related documentation (e.g., manuals, procedures, guidance notes, and forms).
  • Liaise with clients, HSE Inspectors, and external assessors.
  • Sustain and build strong internal and external stakeholder relationships with the site team.
  • Support the development of a positive health and safety culture within the project team.

About you:

  • Extensive experience in health and safety practice, ideally within the construction industry.
  • Knowledge of current and pending HSE Directives for health and safety.
  • Knowledge of current statutory health and safety law in the UK.
  • Knowledge of Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (CDM).
  • Knowledge of good practice in construction (e.g., HSE guidance and approved codes of practice).
  • Knowledge and experience of ISO 45001 (or similar management systems).
  • Formal qualification in Occupational Safety and Health (e.g., NEBOSH Construction Certificate).
  • CSCS card or affiliated scheme (SHEA Water).
