I have a brand new part-time, permanent payroll opportunity to join a rapidly growing successful business as their Payroll Specialist and expert in a stand-alone role with sole responsibility for this function. This Nottingham based client has created this new opportunity in reaction to continued company growth that has resulted in the need for a payroll professional to join and manage the monthly payroll process. The role is office based and the hours are flexible.

About the Role:


Reporting to the HR Manager, joining the HR team of 10, as Payroll Specialist you will be responsible for managing the full end to end process of the company's UK monthly in-house payroll for circa (Apply online only) employees.

You will be required to look at current payroll processes and contribute with process improvement ideas that you will action and monitor for the desired results. Continuous process improvement will be at the forefront of your focus within this role. You will work in Excel spreadsheets and the company's payroll and HR software system. With a new payroll system due to be implemented over the coming months, you will also be responsible for aiding this implementation. As part of this team you will also support your fellow colleagues with ad hoc HR duties.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for managing the entire end to end monthly payroll process for circa (Apply online only) UK employees across various departments and locations, ensuring payments are accurate and processed on time.
  • Maintain payroll systems and records, including new hires, terminations, changes to salaries, and other payroll adjustments.
  • Prepare and submit payroll, deductions, and benefits contributions.
  • Collaborate with HR and Finance to put in place robust payroll procedures to ensure the accuracy of payroll data, including employee benefits, pensions, and deductions.
  • Resolve payroll discrepancies and payroll queries.
  • Ensure compliance with payroll regulations, including PAYE, National Insurance Contributions (NICs), pension schemes (auto-enrolment), and statutory payments (SSP, SMP).
  • Prepare and submit payroll reporting, including RTI (Real Time Information) submissions to HMRC.
  • Manage payroll-related reporting and audit requests.
  • Prepare and distribute pay slips, p45s, p60s, P11Ds, and other payroll-related documentation.
  • Undertake regular payroll audits to ensure accuracy and compliance and implement improvements as needed.
  • Stay updated on payroll best practices, employment legislation and other payroll-related regulations.
  • Take leading role in a payroll related projects including new system implementation


Ideally you will have:

  • Excellent understanding of payroll practices
  • Experience working as a payroll manager, specialist or in a standalone position, and running in-house payroll.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll software
  • Attention to detail
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent IT Skills including MS Office, including advanced excel skills
  • A self-starter - self-motivated, proactive, and able to act on own initiative.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills - experience of dealing with staff at all levels.
  • Experience of working in a busy environment, an understanding of the importance of deadlines and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Previous experience with payroll-related projects, such as system implementations is desirable.
  • Maths and English GCSE A-C or equivalent
  • Attained or working towards CIPP (Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals) qualification or equivalent.-desired
