 A fantastic, established, well known Nottingham firm, known to us as a client for many years are keen to add an experienced Costs Paralegal / Administrator to their already impressive Costs team.Based in well-equipped offices in an impressive setting, close to commuter links, the Costs Paralegal / Administrator will benefit from working with a cohesive team of Paralegals and Cost Lawyers to deliver a high quality of a full range of Cost Paralegal / Administrator Duties in Cardiff.

Duties and responsibilities of the Costs Paralegal / Administrator

  • Plays an active role in knowledge sharing to ensure growth and development
  • Assists the partner in providing them with effective and high quality secretarial support
  • Undertakes all aspects of the role using the most appropriate tools and resources for the task to meet deadlines
  • Demonstrates flexibility and proactively contribute to the team's success by actively seeking to improve working processes
  • Ensures all work is undertaken in the correct priority order
  • Follows team processes and procedures when undertaking tasks
  • Collaborates with team members on team processes, procedures and solutions - ensuring more junior members of the team understand and adhere to these
  • Actively participates in team meetings
  • Drafting Legal Aid bills on Costmaster
  • Submitting Legal Aid bills on CCMS (Client Cost Management System)
  • Submitting appeals
  • Allocating counsel fees
  • Liaising with counsel and external cost draftsman
  • Preparing schedule of costs
  • General billing administration duties
  • Liaising with client when requested
  • Requesting extensions for PODs, when requested
  • Liaising with opponents re missing documents/information, extensions and payments, including chasing

Skills Required:

  • Experience in a costs department is essential
  • IT literate with high level of proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook), Lync - Skype for Business and Microsoft Teams
  • Detailed and strong working knowledge of and high level of proficiency in billing
  • Excellent organisation and prioritisation skills
  • Applies knowledge and judgement to solve problems and make decisions
