Engineering Manager

Engineering Manager Salary:£55,000 - £60,000 per annum

Orion is partnered with a well-established business located in Nottingham. We are recruiting for an experienced, hands-on Engineering Manager. The ideal candidate needs to be multi skilled but electrically biased and have experience managing teams of Engineers in a fast-paced working environment.

The focus of this Maintenance Supervisor is to maintain waste management machinery in a heavy industrial plant.

Engineering Manager Duties:

  • Managing a team of Maintenance Engineers
  • Ensure the health and safety of yourself and others, adhering to HSEQ policies.
  • Manage and develop a skilled maintenance team to meet operational objectives.
  • Oversee both mechanical and electrical engineering contractors.
  • Draft and implement risk assessments, method statements, and safe working procedures.
  • Deliver planned preventative maintenance and reliability-centred strategies to maximise plant availability.
  • Manage and develop the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Coordinate statutory plant inspections, address non-conformances, and liaise with OEMs on mobile plant reliability.
  • Oversee the development of apprentices, spare parts inventory, and procurement.
  • Manage multiple projects, ensuring timely completion within budget.
  • Collaborate with accounts to justify expenditure and drive cost efficiency through supplier relationships and energy-efficient initiatives.
  • Manage recruitment, onboarding, and training of new staff.

Engineering Manager Essentials:

  • HNC in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • H&S qualification
  • Expertise in electrical systems, plant automation, and control sequencing.
  • Project management experience and knowledge of FMEA, FTA, SMED, and autonomous maintenance programs.
  • Experience in heavy industrial environments and technical problem-solving.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
  • Experience in implementing and maintaining 5S and continuous improvement practices.


Engineering Manager Desirable:

  • Waste management experience
  • Heavy industry experience
  • IOSH Managing Safely certification.
  • Knowledge of Lean and Continuous Improvement techniques.
  • Proven experience in people management.
  • CAD experience and proficiency in MS applications and CMMS.
