The Manufacturing Manager is responsible for GMP clinical operations. The main responsibilities include the management of the GMP clinical team, processes, the generation and completion of associated documents, the controlled cleanroom facility and equipment in order to produce batches on time, in full and to the appropriate level of quality. The Manufacturing Manager is a critical interface with the other functional departments within Upperton and will contribute to facilitating the transfer of projects from both external and internal sources. These responsibilities also cover adherence to the Pharmaceutical Quality System.

Main duties and responsibilities:

Ensure that the GMP controlled cleanroom facility is fully compliant with the Upperton Quality System.

Manage and structure GMP clinical team and be responsible for target setting, performance management, training and regular appraisal. Maintain consistently high standards of supervision of team members.

Direct all clinical production activities to ensure that project deliverables and targets are successfully met and are of the highest quality.

Contribute to the adherence to the Operations budget

Ensure that a manufacturing lead is assigned for project handover from technical transfer to GMP clinical manufacturing and work closely with the project Manager to ensure key milestones are met.

Work closely with project manager to ensure schedule adherence and the successful execution of the manufacturing plan.

Ensure operators have read and understood SOPs and have received sufficient training to manufacture quality products including project specific training where appropriate.

Ensure products of the appropriate level of quality are manufactured according to batch manufacturing records.

Ensure the technical content of batch manufacturing records is correct and approved prior to use.

In liaison with the warehouse team, ensure raw materials and manufactured products are stored correctly in controlled and monitored storage locations.

Ensure the routine cleaning of the Controlled Cleanroom facility is performed and documented.

Ensure the Controlled Cleanroom facility is suitable for use, qualified and maintained.

Essential skills and experience:

Proven leadership and management skills

Excellent relationship management skills

Demonstratable experience of developing and leading a manufacturing function

Educated to degree level or higher in a related scientific/technical discipline or have relevant work experience.

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

Excellent organisation skills with strong attention to detail.

Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office applications.

Ability to effectively contribute within a team environment and work on own initiative.

Strong focus on quality and safety.
