Mechanical Design Engineer
Nottinghamshire

Salary: £35,000 - £45,000 (DOE)

The Company:
Our client specializes in providing end-to-end engineered solutions within the material handling sector, with a strong focus on food, rubber, and performance materials. Their expertise includes bespoke machinery and plant equipment, with capabilities ranging from small components to full turnkey projects.

While a majority of manufacturing is completed through their international divisions, they maintain a small but rapidly expanding UK-based team that includes mechanical and software engineers. With a reputation for high-quality engineering, they continue to see growing demand for their custom solutions. The UK team is currently looking to expand due to increasing project volumes.

The Role:
We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to contribute to a range of design and project delivery tasks. The ideal candidate will work on designing mechanical components and layouts, collaborating directly with project and installation teams, and ensuring system integration success.

Your Responsibilities will include:

  • Developing mechanical design drawings for bespoke equipment, both new and legacy projects.
  • Preparing Bills of Materials (BOM) and specifying instrumentation for plant equipment.
  • Creating detailed P&ID diagrams, floor layouts, and fabrication drawings.
  • Utilizing SolidWorks (preferred but not essential) and AutoCAD 2D for creating accurate 3D and 2D models.
  • Performing varied mechanical calculations, including FEA, CFD, thermodynamics, and material throughput calculations.
  • Attending site surveys to support the sales and project implementation process.

What We're Looking For:

  • Experience with ATEX directives and handling equipment in potentially explosive environments is highly desirable.
  • Background in the food industry, material handling, conveyors, or related sectors.
  • Proficiency in reading P&ID documentation and creating detailed mechanical design drawings.
  • Knowledge of SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar CAD systems.
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or relevant experience preferred.

The Benefits:

  • Competitive salary between £35,000 and £45,000 depending on experience.
  • 25 days holiday plus bank holidays, with flexibility around holiday use.
  • Life assurance policy
  • Training and development, including potential trips to international sites to gain hands-on product training and deeper insights into engineered solutions.

How to Apply:
If you are a driven Mechanical Design Engineer looking to make a mark in a collaborative and growing team, we want to hear from you!
Please send your CV to Matt Taylor at or call for further details.
