Mechanical Test Engineer - Nottingham

Your new company:Our client is a premier designer and manufacturer of technical teaching equipment for various engineering fields, including mechanical, civil, electrical, and structural engineering. Their goal is to deliver top-notch educational tools that foster learning and innovation.

Your new role:As a Mechanical Test Engineer, you will be responsible for conducting safe 'end of line' testing of sub-assemblies and finished products, adhering to relevant test methods in compliance with ISO9001 standards.

Your role encompasses a broad spectrum of mechanical disciplines, from aerodynamics and fluid mechanics to engine testing and basic sub-assembly checks and calibration. Additionally, you will perform routine housekeeping checks and maintenance within the department. Your objective is to ensure the 'finishing' of all products, providing customers with the best and safest product experience possible.

This role requires a keen eye for detail, a strong foundation in mechanical principles, the ability to interpret engineering drawings/data, and a positive attitude towards a dynamic work schedule.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct safe testing of mechanical products and sub-assemblies according to relevant test methods and priorities set by the Senior Test Engineer.
  • Record test data for future reference whenever possible.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot faults down to the component level.
  • Utilise the MRN system to enhance product information and test methods.
  • Inspect incoming items against design specifications and accept or reject them as necessary.
  • Assist with repairs and returns as needed.
  • Support the inspection of manufactured parts and accept or reject them accordingly.
  • Maintain accurate records within the DART system.
  • Occasionally, test simple electrical units and calibrate electrical components such as load cells and PCBs.

What you'll need to succeed:

  • Previous experience in a relevant mechanical testing or inspection role.
  • The ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and diagnose faults.
  • Flexible, positive approach, attention to detail, and creative problem-solving skills.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Minimum of HNC in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in fitting, assembly, or prototype building.
  • Experience in equipment calibration.
  • F-Gas Certification.
  • Knowledge of ISO Quality standards.
  • Basic wire checking skills.
