Astute's Power team is working with one of the leaders in the UK Waste Management Sector who own and operate a fleet of Energy from Waste Power Stations across the UK. We are looking for a Deputy Operations Manager to support with the day to day running of the facility across the entire process from the weighbridge through to the boiler and steam turbine.

The Deputy Operations Manager will support with all operational aspects of the power station and processes on site ensuring the plant is compliant with all environmental legislations and permits. This is a great opportunity for an experienced Shift Team Leader looking to get into a management position.

Responsibilities and duties:
As the Deputy Operations Manager you will be responsible for:
  • Overseeing the weighbridge and plant operations on a day to day basis
  • Supporting with plant improvements and operational performance.
  • Assist with the safe and efficient operation of the plant.
  • Assist with management of the site safe Systems of Work in accordance with Safety Rules.
  • Support with O&M activity coordination to ensure maximum plant availability, flexibility and overall performance.
  • Development of Operations procedures, staff training / mentoring & development.
  • Management of third party contracts.
  • Ensuring the power station operates and complies within environmental regulations at all times




Professional qualifications
We are looking for someone with the following:
  • A relevant engineering or technical qualification at level 3 as a minimum (City & Guilds / NVQ)
  • Ideally a ONC / HNC / HND in an engineering field
  • IOSH or NEBOSH or similar in Health & Safety
  • A full driving licence is essential as travel to other sites may be required at times




Personal skills
The Deputy Operations Manager would suit someone with:
  • At least five years operations experience in the power generation or waste/recycling industry. This can include CCGT, coal, CHP, energy from waste or biomass.
  • Operations experience with Steam Turbines
  • Knowledge of environmental permits, H&S issues and safe working environments
