A secondary school in Nottingham are looking to appoint a motivated and passionate Head of Year (non-teaching) to provide all round support across a multitude of areas for students within their year cohort. You will act as a point of contact for all pastoral communication for parents/carers and outside agencies. You will be responsible for ensuring that high standards of behaviour, attendance & engagement with learning are met.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Provide guidance on learning, health, and safety matters.
  • Offer comprehensive support to promote students' physical and mental well-being.
  • Act as a liaison between the Year team and external organisations.
  • Ensure adherence to child protection policies and safeguarding procedures.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for staff referrals regarding behavioural issues.
  • Collect, collate, and follow up on incident reports and student statements.
  • Address and mediate student relationship conflicts to find resolutions.
  • Manage, distribute, and track report cards for assigned students.
  • Monitor bullying incidents and enforce appropriate policies and interventions.
  • Prepare detailed incident reports and maintain communication with parents.
  • Address attendance concerns by contacting parents and conducting home visits when needed.
  • Serve as the main contact for parents, managing inquiries and referring them to relevant staff when necessary.
  • Implement and monitor attendance improvement strategies and sanctions.
  • Coordinate the setting and collection of work for students who are excluded or absent.
  • Schedule parental meetings, including those with Heads of Year or Senior Leadership Team (SLT).
  • Assist with student admissions, working closely with the Head of Year.
  • Organise Year Group Assemblies and support school-wide assemblies and presentations.
