Reporting to: Head of Buying

Job Type: Full-Time in the office based in Nottingham

Job Description:

Join a dynamic retailer as a Buyer, where you will play a critical role in negotiating the best terms with suppliers and managing the purchasing process. You will be responsible for sourcing products, maintaining stock levels, and ensuring smooth operations in line with our sales forecasts and store requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supplier Management:

    • Negotiate optimal terms with new and existing suppliers.
    • Source new products for catalogue and website listings.
    • Monitor product failure rates and negotiate resolutions with suppliers.
  • Purchasing and Stock Control:

    • Manage the purchase of products, both capital and non-capital lines.
    • Expedite orders based on store replenishment needs or sales forecasts.
    • Ensure adequate stock turnover through frequent ordering and supplier liaison.
    • Process all invoices promptly and arrange payments with relevant departments.
  • Product and Marketing Coordination:

    • Coordinate with Marketing/Creative Services for product placement.
    • Obtain supplier contributions for marketing campaigns as required.
  • Internal Collaboration:

    • Ensure new suppliers have approved status before placing orders.
    • Support stores with ad-hoc purchases and special build items.
    • Work with internal departments and the warehouse team for product recalls and returns.
  • System and Process Development:

    • Liaise with the Database Administrator to ensure accurate product information setup.
    • Develop new systems, work practices, and controls with the Purchasing Manager.
  • Reporting and Compliance:

    • Produce ad hoc reports for the Purchasing Manager.
    • Comply with operational, accounting, H&S, and fleet policies as determined by respective managers.
    • Maintain confidentiality and good housekeeping practices in all areas of responsibility.

Shared Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the buying team to source new products.
  • Review products at the end of each catalogue cycle for campaigns, price reductions, or deletions.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in a retail purchasing or buying role within Hard Goods.
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work effectively in a team.
  • Proficiency in relevant software and systems.
