Senior Quantity Surveyor

Role Overview

We are seeking a proactive and skilled Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our team at Build Recruitment. In this role, you will be responsible for managing and controlling all commercial aspects of projects, ensuring compliance with legal and contractual obligations. This includes overseeing applications and valuations, ensuring timely payments to subcontractors, and procuring services in line with our commitments.

You will be working for an established social housing planned works main contractor, focusing on FRA, EWI, K&B and internal and external improvements to housing stock and high-rise buildings, with a focus on increasing energy efficiency.

 

Key Responsibilities
  • Risk Management: Identify and mitigate project risks effectively.
  • Project Implementation: Oversee projects from inception to completion, maintaining the project plan.
  • Financial Performance: Monitor and communicate project financials, working closely with Contract Managers and the Finance Director.
  • Project Tracking: Keep the project tracker updated in collaboration with the Project Coordinator for accurate financial planning and reporting.
  • Estimating and Tendering: Assist in the estimation and tendering of new projects.

 

About You
  • Cost Management: Ensure initial estimates and cost plans are adequate.
  • Financial Procedures: Understand and apply commercial and financial procedures.
  • Forecasting: Maintain detailed preliminary forecasts and actual costs, intervening when necessary.
  • Reporting: Accurately report monthly forecast final accounts.
  • Cost-Value Relationship: Understand the relationship between cost, value, and profit.
  • Risk and Opportunity Management: Support the Contract Manager in managing project risks and opportunities.
  • Profit Maximisation: Take steps to maximise profit.
  • Contractual Knowledge: Understand Notices and Payment Criteria, and the implications of different contract forms.
  • Change Management: Manage the change process as per the contract.
  • Bid Preparation: Assist in preparing bid documents for competitive tenders.
  • Cost Alignment: Develop strategies to align costs or design when discrepancies are identified.

 

Who We Are Looking For
  • Qualifications: Degree in Quantity Surveying or equivalent experience.
  • Experience: Experience with a Principal Contractor, particularly in Social Housing Planned Works and Refurbishment Projects.
  • Skills: Excellent planning, organisational, and communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel. Ability to read construction drawings and design information.
  • Valuation and Reporting: Experience in valuing interim applications, preparing site variations, and internal cost reports.
  • Knowledge: Familiarity with measurement and valuation techniques, contractual laws, and construction legislation.
