Head of Software Development

Nottingham based (2 days per week in office)

£80K - £85K

A leading Nottingham based organisation are looking for a Head of Software Development to lead their team through an exciting transformation as they migrate their on-premises applications to the cloud. You'll establish coding standards and development principles, foster a strong Agile and DevOps culture, and drive innovation to enhance our services. Your leadership will shape our technical direction, improve system scalability and performance, and ensure that software solutions meet the highest standards of quality and reliability.

As the head of Development, you will be responsible for the daily operations of the software development team, manage the developers, represent the team to other stakeholders, and ensure that the software development function is constantly developing and improving.

Technical Skills needed:

Cloud Platforms:

  • Extensive experience with AWS services, including EC2, S3, Lambda, and other serverless technologies.
  • Proven ability to migrate on-premises applications to cloud environments.

On-Premises Systems:

  • Strong understanding of on-premises infrastructure and the challenges associated with cloud migration.

Programming Languages & Frameworks:

  • Proficiency in .NET framework and C# programming language.
  • Expertise in ASP.NET for web application development.

Databases:

  • Solid knowledge of SQL Server, database design, optimization, and maintenance.

Development Practices:

  • Mastery of Test-Driven Development (TDD) and experience implementing testing frameworks.
  • Familiarity with event-driven architectures and microservices.

DevOps & CI/CD:

  • Experience with DevOps tools and practices, such as Docker, Kubernetes, Jenkins, or GitLab CI/CD.
  • Ability to set up and manage continuous integration and continuous deployment pipelines.

You will inherit a small team of 3 and be responsible for building this function out. Hands on development work will be needed at the beginning and overall have a 30/70 split with management.
