HGV Fleet Mechanic

Working Pattern: 40 hrs per week Monday to Friday

Location: Queens Drive, Nottingham NG2

Via is currently looking for an HGV Fleet Mechanic to join our Fleet Team based at our Queens Drive Depot in Nottingham.

You will provide a varied range of skills in the maintenance, inspection, repair and testing of Vehicles and Plant to prescribed industry and manufactures standards.

The Job
Key areas of responsibility will include:

  • Responsible for repairing, maintaining, inspecting and testing a wide range of vehicles and Plant to prescribed standards and timeframes.
  • Accurately complete all required statutory and Internal paperwork, ensuring customers billed correctly and all legal requirements are documented.
  • Inspect and prepare HGV & PSV vehicles for Mot to ensure Internal and external operator licences are compliant.
  • Attend vehicle and plant breakdowns reported by Internal and external customers.
  • Comply with all relevant health safety and environmental legislation and procedures taking personal responsibility for own and others Health and safety.
  • Comply with all routine daily checks of vehicles and plant are undertaken recording to legal requirements and reporting any damages or defects found.
  • Work as a relief chargehand as and when required to support supervisors with the efficient running of the service.

The Person

Mainly you will be excited to be a vital part of our Fleet Team, but there are just a few other things wed like from you:

  • Qualified Mechanic to NVQ level 3 or equivalent in motor vehicle engineering.
  • DVSA MOT tester qualification for class 4/5 & 7 (Beneficial but not essential).
  • Full UK driving licence (Cat C desirable).
  • Practical experience of working in a busy Fleet workshop environment on a wide range of vehicles or plant equipment to agreed manufacturer and internal standards.
  • Ability to use specialist vehicle and plant equipment fault diagnostic test equipment (Beneficial but not essential).
  • Knowledge of health and safety legislation and practices applicable to a workshop environment.
  • Good numeracy and literacy skills with a good standard of written and verbal communications.
  • Ability to keep up with industry standards updating knowledge and skills.
