We are currently seeking a passionate Construction Tutor to join a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Nottingham. The Role:

We are looking for a motivated and experienced Construction Tutor to deliver high-quality vocational training to students at KS3 and KS4 levels. In this role, you will plan and deliver engaging lessons in construction trades, tailored to meet the diverse needs of students in a PRU setting. This position requires a patient and understanding individual who can manage challenging behavior and foster a positive learning environment. This role could be made permanent depending on the person.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver construction lessons and practical workshops tailored to individual student needs and abilities.

  • Monitor and assess students’ progress, providing regular feedback and guidance to help them develop technical skills and confidence.

  • Develop and maintain a safe and inclusive workshop environment that complies with health and safety regulations.

  • Foster positive relationships with students, encouraging their engagement and motivation in vocational education.

  • Collaborate with support staff, parents, guardians, and external agencies to provide holistic support for students.

  • Contribute to the development of individual learning plans (ILPs) and participate in staff meetings.

Minimum Requirements:

To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following minimum criteria:

Experience:
  • At least 1-2 years of teaching or training experience in construction or a related vocational subject, preferably in a PRU or with students who have additional needs.

Qualifications:
  • Relevant qualifications in construction trades or building practices, along with a teaching qualification or willingness to work towards one.

Training:
  • Experience in managing challenging behaviour and using de-escalation techniques.

  • Familiarity with safeguarding policies and procedures, particularly in PRU settings.

Skills:
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate students who may have disengaged from mainstream education.

  • Strong technical knowledge of construction practices and trades.

To Be Considered for the Higher End of the Salary Bracket:
  • Advanced Vocational Training Experience: Extensive experience in delivering construction training, with a proven track record of student engagement and success.

  • Leadership or Coordinator Roles: Experience as a workshop lead, subject coordinator, or involvement in extracurricular activities that support PRU students.

  • Professional Development: Continued professional development (CPD) in vocational education, construction, or trauma-informed practice.
