A leading provider of high-quality products in the food industry, renowned for its commitment to excellence, innovation, and sustainability, is seeking an experienced and driven Head of Technical to lead and oversee technical operations across multiple business units across the site. This pivotal role is responsible for ensuring customer expectations are met while delivering group objectives, driving innovation, enhancing quality standards, and providing strategic leadership.

The Role:
As Head of Technical, you will be the key technical authority within the business, working closely with senior commercial and operational teams to ensure products meet the highest quality standards. You will lead internal and external technical communications, develop and mentor technical teams, and foster a culture of continuous improvement while maintaining full compliance. Your leadership will play a vital role in shaping the business's future by driving innovation, championing sustainability, and enhancing the group's technical performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary technical point of contact for customers, ensuring high-quality standards are consistently met across all sites.
  • Develop and implement long-term technical strategies and KPIs, with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Lead innovation in New Product Development (NPD) and Existing Product Development (EPD), ensuring these remain central to the business strategy.
  • Align customer aspirations with operational activities to enhance internal communication and collaboration.
  • Provide expert leadership on technical, quality, and food safety matters, ensuring best practices are embedded across the group.
  • Mentor and develop technical teams, promoting a culture of excellence and quality.
  • Support business growth through robust customer relationships and collaboration with commercial teams on product development initiatives.
  • Champion environmental sustainability initiatives, driving efforts to reduce the group's environmental impact.
  • Ensure the group remains fully audit-ready and compliant with BRCGS standards at all times.


Person Specification:

  • A relevant degree or equivalent in a technical field, with significant experience in food technical roles.
  • Strong understanding of BRCGS v9 standards and food safety systems, ideally HACCP (Level 4) qualified.
  • Proven leadership and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and mentor teams.
  • A track record of delivering continuous improvement initiatives and fostering innovation.
  • Experience managing technical operations across multiple sites and collaborating with senior management teams.
  • Commercially savvy, with strong experience in retail customer service.
  • Passionate about quality, sustainability, and driving operational excellence.
