We are working with a specialist independent school, based in Oakham, who provides education, residential, and therapy for young people aged 8 - 18. All students attending the school have Education Health Care Plans (EHCPs), so experience working with these would be advantageous. The students studying at the school have a variety of different needs within SEMH, ASD, and other related conditions. The school also caters for students with challenging behaviours. The RoleTo effectively and consistently manage the behaviour of pupils in line with the policies and ethos of the school. Contribute to the development and maintain the highest professional standards of practice, through active participation in internal and external CPD, and training and development programmes, in consultation with the SLT. Maintain the highest standards of record keeping, including electronic data entry and recording, report writing and the responsible exercise of professional self-governance in accordance with professional codes of practices and school policies and procedures. Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide instruction for pupils on the vocational plus programme in English and Maths to GCSE level under the supervision of the Class Co-ordinator.
  • Engage pupils in an alternative education programme according to individual assessment needs.
  • Encourage pupils in personal development, achievement, and integration into the school.
  • Support out of classroom activities as a part of a broad and varied curriculum.
  • Support at college and other provisions.
  • Prepare and deliver materials suitable for the individual needs of vocational plus pupils.

Essential Criteria

  • Experience of working with children and young people.
  • A strong understanding of SEN policies and legislation.
  • The ability to quickly build relationships with challenging pupils.
  • Be able to work under your own initiative.
  • Awareness of the mental health needs of children and young people.
