Team Leader - Building Control (Building Inspector Class 3 competency)

I am urgently seeking a qualified Team Leader within Building Control (Building Inspector Class 3 competency). This is a contract role, with details below.

Job Title: Team Leader – Building Control (Building Inspector Class 3 competency)

Rate of Pay: £500pd

Hours: 37 hours per week

Location: Oldbury

Hybrid working. Minimum of 2 days per week in-office, with flexibility required to meet the demands of the service.

Brief description:

We are looking for a Team Leader to oversee the day-to-day management of the Building Control Team.

Due to the recent change in legislation, the post-holder will be required to be a Class 3 registered Building Inspector and will be conducting the inspections of all Class 3 buildings along with other general sign-off within the area.

The candidate will be managing a team of 6, including one Senior Inspector, and will be responsible for the technical and professional leadership of the team, workload management and compliance with current legislation and operational requirements.Key aspects of the role:

  • Completing Class 3 Building Inspections, along with any other inspection workload within the team.
  • To be responsible for the organisation and allocation of work with the team, and ensuring that plans are assessed for compliance within the statutory timescales.
  • To ensure inspections are carried out efficiently and in co-ordination with other departments as required.
  • To represent the Council and be responsible for the issuing of statutory notices and instigation of proceedings under the Building Act and other relevant legislation.
  • To act as the Council’s lead technical officer in relation to the implementation of statutory responsibilities of the Safety of Sports Grounds Act and the Fire Safety and Safety of Places of Sport Act 1987.
  • Supervising and signing off level 1 trainee work, to include plan vetting and inspections.

Qualification Requirements:

  • Possession of a relevant degree or equivalent qualification.
  • Membership of a professional body representing Building Control.
  • The candidate must be able to travel across the borough to various sites.

Experience:

  • Experience of supervision.
  • Experience of communicating, liaising with elected members, groups, members of the public and external bodies.
  • Experience of assessing and checking Building Regulations applications relating to public service and commercial buildings.
  • Experience of dealing with dangerous structures.
  • Experience of dealing with BC Enforcement cases.
