Transport Planner
Birmingham - Oldbury
£35,000 Basic Salary plus Bens

Our client based in Oldbury is seeking a Transport Planner to join their team. Candidates would come from a small to medium sized transport business. You will be responsible for a team of drivers and Vans including HGV's and be the point of contact for all drivers on any delivery query. You will also liaise with sales and accounts teams for any delivery or POD enquiries to plan and route all daily and next day vehicles.
Duties include:
- Route Planning: Plan and optimize HGV routes, ensuring maximum efficiency, fuel economy, and timely delivery schedules.
- Fleet Management: Oversee and monitor the fleet of HGVs to ensure compliance with maintenance schedules, legal requirements, and operational standards.
- Coordination: Liaise with drivers, customers, and warehouse teams to ensure smooth operations and resolve any delivery or scheduling issues.
- Compliance: Ensure all operations comply with relevant health and safety, transport regulations, and industry standards, including drivers’ hours regulations and vehicle compliance.
- Problem Resolution: Quickly address and resolve any issues that arise, such as delays, breakdowns, or unexpected changes to routes.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate records of deliveries, route changes, vehicle maintenance, and any incidents or delays.
- Provide regular reports to management on fleet performance, costs, and other key metrics.
- Customer Service: Act as a point of contact for customers regarding delivery inquiries, ensuring timely updates and solutions to any challenges.
- Cost Management: Monitor fuel consumption, vehicle expenses, and transportation costs to identify areas for potential savings and efficiency improvements.
- Continuous Improvement: Suggest and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve service levels.
Key skills:
- Proven experience in logistics, fleet planning, or HGV route planning.
- A solid understanding of transport operations, including driver schedules, routes, and regulatory compliance.
- Knowledge of HGV fleet management and cost control.
- A logistics, transportation, or supply chain management qualification is desirable but not essential.
- A valid UK driving license would be beneficial, though not mandatory.
