We have a fantastic opportunity for a Senior Environmental Health Officer at Oldham Council, this is a full-time temporary role for the next 5 months with the possibility of extension.

Pay Rate is £55.00 per inspection

What is the role?

Oldham Council are looking for a Senior Environmental Health Officer, to complete about 200 Environmental Health inspections across businesses within the borough as soon as possible

What are your responsibilities?

  • We are looking for approximately 200 food hygiene inspections to be carried out before 31st March 2025. The officer(s) will be required to complete a full food hygiene inspection of a given business and issue a handwritten report on site.  Letters may need to be issued in rare cases for significant non-compliance. 
  • The suitable candidate(s) will need to be a qualified Environmental Health Officer with 20 hours CPD for this year, with at least 10 hours core food. They will need to have completed the Food Standards Agency’s competency framework and have the completed document for review.
  • They will need at least two years recent experience carrying out food hygiene inspections and two references.  We are looking for ideally one candidate who can deliver the work project, however if no suitable candidate is available, we would consider splitting the workload across multiple inspectors.
  • The majority of the inspections are evening inspections with a small proportion open during the daytime. The premises are mainly unrated businesses and category C inspections.  Rate of pay is per inspection; £55 for a category C inspection and £55 for a category unrated inspection. 

What skills do you Need?

  • Must have recent experience of working as a Senior Environmental Health Officer, ideally for a local authority.
  • Strong IT skills, as you will be using Microsoft Office and Internal Council IT systems
  • Excellent people skills, as you will be speaking to the public, other members of staff and managers.
  • Full UK Driving Licence, and access to a vehicle
  • Full knowledge of all Environmental legislations
  • Pay rate is £55.00 per inspection
