We are seeking a Deputy Manager for our Semi Independence Unit to assist the Unit Manager in providing a safe and caring environment for young people transitioning from care to independent living. This role is crucial in supporting the day-to-day operations of the Unit and ensuring that the accommodation is well-maintained and that young people are supported in sustaining their tenancy agreements.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Assist the Unit Manager in maintaining a safe and nurturing environment conducive to the emotional and physical well-being of young people.
  • Support and lead the team in the daily operations of the Unit.
  • Ensure young people are supported as part of their Pathway Plans in line with the Council’s Corporate Parenting Responsibilities.
  • Cover for the Unit Manager in their absence and share responsibilities such as staff supervision, managing the staffing rota, and representing the Unit at relevant meetings.
  • Maintain contact and liaison with external agencies such as Personal Advisers, Social Workers, and educational institutions.
  • Supervise and develop staff both individually and as a team to ensure the Unit's objectives are met in accordance with Department policy.
  • Recruit and appoint staff in conjunction with the Manager.
  • Allocate work and ensure it meets departmental standards.
  • Promote and encourage professional development among staff, assess training needs, provide in-house courses, and utilize external training resources as needed.
  • Supervise staff and casuals, including those undertaking professional training or placements.
  • Assist in monitoring budgets and ensure spending is within set limits.
  • Complete Regulation 44 monthly monitoring reports.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in residential care management or a similar role, preferably within a semi-independent living setting.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work flexibly, including regular weekends and evenings.
  • Experience in budget management and staff development.
  • Knowledge of the regulatory framework governing residential care and transition to independent living.
