SEND TEACHING ASSISTANT

The Role:

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to join our supportive team. You will work closely with the SENDCo and class teachers to provide tailored support to students with a range of needs, including learning difficulties, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Speech and Language difficulties, and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • One-to-One Support: Provide personalized assistance to students with SEND, helping them to access the curriculum and achieve their learning goals.
  • Classroom Support: Assist the class teacher in creating an inclusive learning environment, adapting resources, and delivering differentiated activities.
  • Communication: Foster positive relationships with students, parents, and staff, ensuring clear communication about progress and any concerns.
  • Progress Monitoring: Observe and record student progress, providing feedback to teachers and contributing to Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Behavioral Support: Implement behavior management strategies to support students in maintaining positive behaviors.
  • Personal Care: Assist with the personal care needs of students when necessary, ensuring their comfort and well-being.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with children with SEND in an educational setting is essential.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • The ability to remain calm and flexible in a fast-paced environment.
  • A commitment to promoting the inclusion and well-being of all students.

Desirable:

  • Experience with specific SEND strategies or interventions, such as PECS, Makaton, or Team Teach.
  • A Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning or equivalent.
