About the Role:
Are you passionate about supporting the emotional and social development of young people? We are looking for a compassionate and dedicated Pastoral Worker with experience in Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) to join our supportive team in Oldham. This is an exciting opportunity to help students navigate their emotional challenges and develop the skills needed for success both in school and in life.

As a Pastoral Worker, you will provide crucial emotional and behavioural support to students with SEMH needs, helping them to manage their emotions and build resilience. You will work closely with teachers, safeguarding leads, and external agencies to ensure that students receive holistic support and can fully engage with their education in a safe and nurturing environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and group pastoral support to students with SEMH needs
  • Offer guidance and mentoring to help students improve their emotional well-being and behaviour
  • Support students with personal development, building resilience, and addressing social and emotional challenges
  • Help develop and implement individualized support plans for students with SEMH needs
  • Work closely with teaching staff to support students in overcoming barriers to learning
  • Promote positive behaviour and social skills development through structured activities and interventions
  • Liaise with parents, carers, and external agencies to ensure effective support and safeguarding
  • Monitor and track student progress, providing regular updates to staff and parents
  • Create a safe and supportive environment where students feel confident and empowered to express themselves
  • Support the school's wider pastoral team in promoting a positive school culture and tackling behavioural issues

Essential Criteria:

  • Experience of working with students with SEMH, ideally within a school or educational setting
  • Strong understanding of SEMH challenges and strategies for supporting students
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with students and staff
  • Ability to manage challenging behaviour in a calm, consistent, and professional manner
  • A nurturing and empathetic approach to supporting students' emotional well-being
  • Proactive and flexible, with a solution-focused mindset
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children

Desirable Criteria:

  • Relevant qualifications (e.g., Youth Work, Social Work, Psychology, or similar)
  • Experience working with students with additional needs such as autism, ADHD, or learning disabilities
  • First Aid certification or willingness to undertake necessary training
  • Knowledge of behaviour management strategies and emotional regulation techniques
