Company Overview:

Our client is an established principal contractor in Oldham, with a strong background in demolitions, small builds, flooring, plastering, and roofing. Initially a subcontractor for main contractors and local businesses, the company is expanding and evolving into a leading principal contractor, specialising in the completion of full strip-out and comprehensive construction packages. The company has worked across diverse sectors, including commercial, luxury residential apartments, and retail. As the company continues to grow, they are seeking a skilled Quantity Surveyor/Estimator to manage projects from inception to completion.

Position Overview:

As the Quantity Surveyor/Estimator, you will be responsible for managing the cost aspects of projects from initial estimation through to final accounts. You will oversee project budgets, value engineering, and sub-contractor management. The ideal candidate will have a background in fit-out projects and experience in managing projects across a variety of sectors, including commercial, residential, and retail.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Estimation: Prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates for projects from inception through to completion.

Value Engineering: Provide value engineering solutions to optimise cost savings without compromising quality or scope.

Cost Management: Oversee the financial aspects of projects, including tracking costs, managing variations, and ensuring adherence to budgets.

Sub-Contractor Management: Place orders with sub-contractors, manage sub-contractor agreements, and maintain strong working relationships.

Negotiation: Negotiate variations, challenges, and changes to project scope, ensuring the best possible outcome for the company and client.

Project Delivery: Monitor and track project progress, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget.

Reporting: Produce and maintain accurate cost reports, forecasts, and project documentation.

Risk Management: Identify and manage risks to project cost and schedule, offering solutions to mitigate any issues.

Client Liaison: Maintain positive relationships with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers, ensuring effective communication and successful project delivery.

Key Skills & Experience:

Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor/Estimator, ideally with a focus on fit-out projects and the full range of building services.

Experience in commercial, luxury residential/apartment, and retail sectors is highly desirable.

Strong background in value engineering and cost optimisation.

Experience in managing projects from inception to completion.

Excellent negotiation and communication skills.

Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail.

Strong understanding of construction contracts, variations, and sub-contractor management.

Proficient in relevant industry software and tools.

A degree in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline is preferred but not essential.
