Job Title: Materials Buyer

Salary: 35,000

Our client is a leading subcontractor specialising in dry lining, partitions, and ceilings for residential and commercial construction projects. With a strong reputation for delivering high-quality finishes and exceptional service, they collaborate closely with contractors to ensure the successful completion of projects of all sizes.

They are now looking for a highly organised and detail-oriented Materials Buyer to join their team. The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring the timely procurement of materials required for dry lining projects. You will work closely with project managers, suppliers, and site teams to manage the supply chain, control costs, and maintain high-quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Procurement of Materials:

  • Source, negotiate, and purchase materials such as plasterboard, insulation, framing systems, fixings, and other dry lining products.
  • Ensure materials meet project specifications and quality standards.

Supplier Management:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to ensure competitive pricing and reliable delivery.
  • Evaluate supplier performance and resolve any issues related to quality, delivery, or invoicing.

Cost Control:

  • Obtain and analyse quotes to ensure the best value for money.
  • Track material costs and contribute to project budget management.

Inventory Management:

  • Monitor stock levels to ensure uninterrupted project progress.
  • Implement just-in-time purchasing to minimise waste and storage costs.

Logistics Coordination:

  • Schedule and coordinate deliveries to multiple project sites.
  • Ensure materials arrive on time and in the required quantities.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate records of purchase orders, invoices, and delivery notes.
  • Prepare procurement reports and provide updates to project managers.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in materials procurement, ideally within the construction or dry lining industry.
  • Strong knowledge of construction materials, particularly those used in dry lining.
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
  • Ability to read and understand project drawings and specifications.
  • Proficiency in using procurement software and Microsoft Office.
  • Exceptional organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
