Our school provides tailored education and support for students with a range of special educational needs (SEN), including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges, and other complex needs. Our holistic approach prioritizes the mental health and emotional well-being of every child, creating a safe and supportive environment for them to thrive.

The Role

As a Mental Health Assistant, you will:

  • Provide 1:1 and group support to students with mental health challenges, helping them to develop coping strategies and resilience.
  • Work closely with teachers, therapists, and pastoral staff to create a supportive environment that promotes emotional well-being.
  • Deliver well-being and mindfulness sessions tailored to the needs of students.
  • Assist in identifying early signs of mental health concerns and implementing appropriate interventions.
  • Promote positive behaviour management strategies to support students during challenging times.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with students, acting as a key source of support and encouragement.
  • Contribute to individualized learning plans and pastoral support plans for students with SEMH needs.

What We're Looking For

We are seeking someone who is:

  • Experienced in supporting children or young people with mental health challenges or SEN (experience in an educational or care setting is desirable).
  • Compassionate, patient, and emotionally resilient, with a genuine passion for mental health and education.
  • Knowledgeable about mental health conditions, strategies, and interventions (relevant training or qualifications are a bonus).
  • Skilled in building positive relationships with young people, parents, and colleagues.
  • Confident in managing challenging behaviours using positive reinforcement techniques.
  • Proactive and adaptable, able to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
