You will be an electronics engineer with a strong bias towards hardware. Appreciation of firmware is a good thing but we particularly want your hardware skills. You will be degree qualified or have an HND with significant experience. While the job is product design, the essential skill is knowledge and application of fundamental electronics. As well as designing your own solutions, you will peer review others and be involved in training and mentoring less experienced engineers. You will have demonstrable experience of as many of the following areas as you can tick:
- Analogue Electronics,
- Digital Electronics,
- Mixed-signal,
- Microcontrollers,
- Power management,
- Micro power,
- Linear and switching regulators,
- Off-line SMPS to 500W,
- Battery charging,
- Multiplexing,
- Audio,
- Small signal,
- Power amps,
- Serial communications,
- Low level discrete design,
- Sub-GHz RF,
- Simulation,
- Schematic capture,
- Appreciation of PCB design,
- Appreciation of mechanical design,
- Prototyping,
- Bench testing,
- Fault finding,
- Project management,
- ATE, DFM, DFT, EMC, LVD, etc.
You will have an analytical and methodical approach to all aspects of your work. You will be able to synthesise solutions to problems and test them through simulation and practical prototype.
You can expect to take technical ownership of a project from beginning to end, bringing in the support of colleagues as required. You will have sufficient confidence in your abilities and awareness of your limitations that you will be able to agree reasonable timescales and work to achieve them.
You will exercise your skills and experience to design and support new and existing products. You will be comfortable communicating with colleagues in all areas of the company and with customers and suppliers.
Personal Development
This is a technical role. With experience, you will become a product technical authority, responsible for the support, future development and sustaining of a product line.
We encourage you to explore engineering novelty and express your technical creativity. Training is available, where appropriate.
The Team
The multi-disciplined R&D team currently numbers 24 comprising electronic hardware & firmware design, applications & IOT development, mechanical design, compliance, verification, project management and administration. We rub along quite well together and there are regular (noncompulsory!) social events.
The Location
Our headquarters are in a purpose built factory in Wigan. However, the well-equipped R&D facility, also purpose built, is in leafy Mawdesley on the edge of West Lancs. Because of the remote location, own transportation is essential.
The location might be remote, but the job isn't; you will be expected to work in the office for effective collaboration. Team members travel to Mawdesley from all over Lancashire, Greater Manchester and Merseyside.
Our facilities include a well-equipped lab, EMC chamber, anechoic chamber, environmental test chamber and extensive mechanical workshop with CNC & industrial RP machines. If we have a genuine need for a piece of kit, we get it.
The Rewards
- Salary commensurate with experience
- 34 days annual leave including bank holidays
- Contributory pension scheme
- Vitality health insurance
- Death in service insurance
- Simply Health cashback plan
