Responsible for:

  • Leading the technical development of new and existing products.
  • Providing expert guidance on engineering best practices and standards.
  • Ensuring the integration of emerging technologies into product designs.
  • Collaborating with the sales team to align customer projects with organisational capabilities.

Job Purpose:

The Senior Technologist plays a critical role in advancing engineering projects and ensuring the successful implementation of innovative technologies within the company. This position is responsible for leading technical initiatives, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and supporting the development and enhancement of systems (typical similar industries - kilns, furnaces, recycling, thermal processing, energy recovery, nuclear) while advising the sales team on customer projects to ensure alignment with company capabilities.

Key Relationships:

External:Customers, Suppliers & Vendors, Regulatory Bodies, Industry Experts

Internal:Engineering Team incl. Installation & Commissioning Engineers, Sales and Marketing, and Operations Personnel

Budget Responsibility:

Assisting in the preparation and management of project budgets related to technology development and implementation.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Lead and participate in the design and development of technologies (typical similar industries - kilns, furnaces, recycling, thermal processing, energy recovery, nuclear), ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Collaborate with the sales and marketing team to advise on customer projects, ensuring alignment with company capabilities and technical feasibility.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and technical assessments to support project decisions.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to define project specifications and requirements.
  • Mentor design engineers and our field engineers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Evaluate and select appropriate technologies and materials for product development.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including design specifications (technical datasheets), development testing protocols, and project reports.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices to ensure competitive advantage.
  • Facilitate training sessions and workshops for internal teams and customers to enhance understanding of products and technologies.
  • Contribute to the development of proposals and technical presentations for clients, showcasing the company’s capabilities and innovations.

Key Attributes

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Environmental, or a related field).
  • A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in a technology or engineering role.
  • Strong understanding of processes and associated technologies (typical similar industries - kilns, furnaces, recycling, thermal processing, energy recovery, nuclear).
  • Proven experience in project management and leading cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a hands-on approach to technical challenges.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with diverse teams, including sales.
  • Professional engineering certification (e.g., Chartered Engineer) is preferred but not mandatory.
