Our client who specialises in providing sustainable and energy-efficient solutions for both residential and commercial clients, is looking for a Technical Design Team Manager to lead a team of estimators and designers in developing high-quality solar PV system designs. This role combines technical expertise, team leadership, and project oversight to ensure efficient, compliant designs that align with company goals, while fostering collaboration across teams.  Responsibilities:

  • Lead and mentor a team of design engineers, promoting excellence and professional growth
  • Perform regular reviews, identify skill gaps, and offer training opportunities
  • Oversee solar PV system designs for residential, commercial, and utility projects, ensuring compliance and optimizing efficiency.
  • Collaborate with project managers to align designs with project timelines and budgets.
  • Provide technical guidance, address challenges, and implement design optimisations to improve performance and reduce costs.
  • Stay updated on solar technologies, adopting new tools and best practices.
  • Maintain quality assurance, conduct audits, and ensure compliance with regulations and health & safety standards.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for technical queries and support the sales team with technical insights.
  • Drive process improvements to streamline operations and enhance efficiency
  • Prepare and deliver technical presentations and reports for stakeholders. 
  • Support the sales team by providing technical insights during the pre-sales phase
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and drive initiatives to streamline operations. 

Skills and experience required:

  • 5+ years in solar PV system design and engineering
  • 2+ years in a leadership or management role
  • Strong technical expertise in solar PV systems, design principles, components, and grid integration
  • Proficient in design and simulation tools (e.g., AutoCAD, PV*SOL)
  • Excellent leadership, team management, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong analytical abilities to address complex technical challenges
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills for stakeholder management
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on quality and compliance
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or related field (Master’s preferred)
  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulations (e.g., IEC, NEC, BS EN)
