Our client is awell known and long established privately owned company that has been providing machining and fabrication services to industry since 1974. The company is based out of Ossett, Wakefield and Ecclesfield, Sheffield which provides quick and easy access to all major routes throughout the UK. They work from 2 large manufacturing units boasting 80,000 sq ft+ capacity each and offer a range of services including heavy steel fabrication, mechanical pipe fabrication and installation, acoustic enclosures and thermal store/buffer vessels.

Assistant Workshop Manager

Role Profile:

Work alongside supervisors and staff to deliver a smooth on time delivery of programme.

Cover operational need in the absence of the works manager and have the ability to manage business critical decisions in-line with customer delivery dates and scheduled works.

- Run supervisor meetings outlining the direction of the work, highlighting critical path for each job to meet delivery dates using Gant chart planners.

- Forward planning of resource will be needed on each job, any specific equipment requirements, allocation of space to allow for job builds in the internal and external areas of the workshop.

- Collaboration with drawing office, project managers, quality team and purchasing to effectively deliver jobs on time within allowable hours to high quality standards.

- Pro-actively solve problems alongside all departments striving for a right first-time approach.

- Effectively manage and ensure workshop employees maintain company and legal standards in accordance with company policy and H&S regulations. Actively measuring and identifying all non-compliance is reported and actioned accordingly to ensure company disciplinary and grievance processes are met in a timebound and consistent manner.

- Identify the need for training of employees in all aspects of the job to further the business needs and promote the internal development strategy.

- Understand and communicate the plan of works to all employees as driven by the GANT chart and customer specific needs.

- Liaise with H&S advisors and supervisors to improve the health, safety and wellbeing of all workshop staff by engaging in the H&S agenda and implementing agreed upon changes to maintain a high standard of workshop and site housekeeping.

- Working with maintenance engineers in implementing and improving PPM to ensure the workshop and its equipment is in working order and safe to use.

- Ongoing reviews of job hours against quoted hours to capture overrunning and underperforming jobs allowing for the review of resources to meet and maximise profit margin and efficiency.

- Minimising lost hours through communication with employees ensuring everyone has the job numbers and are clocked on to right jobs, actively challenging staff members that repeatedly accrue lost hours.

- Manage jobs from handover meetings all the way through to delivery out of the gates, ensuring all parts are present, correct and up to customers quality required.

Responsibilities:

Oversee and manage staff and product delivery within the Fabrication & Pipe Bay inclusive of internal, external and offsite work in the absence or instruction of the Workshop Manager.

Accountability: Effective management of any direct reports and workshop staff to ensure the operational needs are met, work to programme deadline whilst ensuring a compliant and risk-free environment for all staff.

Skills:

Ability to read and understand the programme to delivery, follow the works planning in- line with the GANT chart and labour planner.

Deliver training and mentor individuals to help meet individual development plans agreed by manager.

Oversee planning and resource of the material delivery schedule.
