Butler Rose is exclusively partnering with an innovative company that has successfully driven the growth of a spin-off venture originating from Oxford University. Working closely with the CFO, the successful candidate will take full responsibility for managing group financial accounting, governance, processes, systems, and audits for all legal entities across Europe, including their consolidation. This role also involves overseeing and developing the financial accounting team while fostering a customer-centric stakeholder management framework. Additionally, the candidate will support the CFO with group company secretarial matters, investor reporting, and lead ad-hoc projects as required by the organisation.

The ideal candidate will possess the skills and experience to effectively oversee the financial accounting team, which includes two management accountants, as well as train and develop junior finance team members to scale operations in line with business growth. A key focus will be on building and nurturing a high-performing, client-focused financial accounting team. This position also requires a hands-on approach, where the candidate will assist the team with various aspects of the accounts function, such as credit control, invoicing, and cash recovery, when necessary.

Location: Office-based - hybrid

Key Responsibilities:Financial Accounting & Reporting: Manage all legal entity ledgers (AR, AP, GL, consolidation). Ensure monthly reconciliation of ledgers and balance sheets. Oversee transfer pricing and management fees for subsidiaries. Manage fixed and intangible assets, payroll, pensions, and headcount reporting. Oversee treasury management, tax filings, overseas tax matters, and company insurance policies. Support grant applications and regulatory submissions. Deliver accurate month-end, quarterly, and year-end reports in line with corporate deadlines. Processes & Stakeholder Management: Design and implement efficient internal processes with robust controls. Prepare tax credit claims and liaise with internal and external stakeholders. Foster relationships with key operational functions, including HR, IT, R&D, and sales teams. Develop an internal financial playbook with policies and processes.

Company Secretarial Duties:Manage share option schemes and cap tables. Ensure compliance with legal and financial filings. Support investor and board reporting.

Systems & Audit:Review and implement financial systems to support growth and productivity. Manage payroll delivery through external advisors. Oversee annual audits, statutory financial statements, and technical accounting matters. Projects: Provide ad-hoc support to the CFO and wider management team as required. Education & Experience:Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA). Experience in life sciences or related industries, preferably SaaS environments. Proven experience in scaling teams and establishing scalable processes. International experience in a growing organisation with multiple entities.

Skills & Knowledge:Proficiency with cloud accounting tools and Excel. Comprehensive understanding of tax considerations, including R&D tax credits. Familiarity with accounting challenges in R&D and share options.

Competencies & Personality:Detail-oriented, process-driven, and pragmatic. Strong communication skills with the ability to convey financial information to non-finance stakeholders. A proactive problem-solver with a focus on continuous improvement.
