My client is a prestigious independent school dedicated to providing an outstanding education in a nurturing and supportive environment. We are looking for a detail-oriented and experienced Management Accountant to join the finance team. This role is critical in ensuring the financial health of the school and supporting our mission to deliver exceptional educational experiences.

Key Responsibilities Of Management Accountant

  • Prepare and manage the school’s monthly management accounts, including variance analysis and financial reporting to the Finance Director and governors.
  • Develop and maintain detailed budgets and forecasts, working closely with department heads to monitor performance and control costs.
  • Provide financial insights and recommendations to support strategic decision-making and long-term planning.
  • Manage cash flow, including forecasting and monitoring, to ensure the school’s financial stability.
  • Oversee the preparation and submission of regulatory returns and compliance documentation.
  • Support the annual audit process, liaising with external auditors and ensuring accurate and timely submission of all required information.
  • Maintain and improve financial systems and processes, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with relevant legislation and best practices.
  • Assist with payroll management, pension schemes, and other employee benefits, ensuring accurate and timely processing.
  • Provide training and support to non-financial staff on budget management and financial processes.
  • Contribute to the preparation of financial reports for fundraising, grant applications, and other revenue-generating activities.

The Candidate For Management Accountant

  • Qualified or part-qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent).
  • Proven experience in a management accounting role, ideally within the education sector or a similar environment.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and communicate it effectively to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in financial software and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships across the school community.

Desirable:

  • Experience working in an independent school , educational institution or a charity
  • Knowledge of school-specific financial software and systems.
